Castro signs extension

Castro back for two more years per 1530. Deal has option for 3rd year.

I apologize if this was already reported and I missed it. I've been out all weekend.

Re: Castro signs extension

Does not bother me unless JN decides to start him more than once every 2 weeks...or there is a real serious injury and he has to play long term.

He is the guy who at the end of the year you want to see stats like .....80-90 games played.....and about the same....if not less...AB's.

What the need to also have is a backup who can actually hit better.....and his defense is not atrocious. Someone like RA.

Any financials released?

You know this means Narron will be starting him pretty often. Ugh.

Re: Castro signs extension

I only heard it on the radio, and since I'm half working I didn't catch if financials were included or not.

3 if you count the option. I hope it's not a player option.

Re: Castro signs extension

Sigh....I really don't like this move. Juan Castro is not the type of player you should "have" to sign to a LTC. He is the type of player that is available as a non-roster invitee during the spring or as a rule V draftee. While it won't hurt the Reds to have Juan Castro as a backup infielder for the next 2 years, it just seems like a very unnecessary move to me.

Juan Castro is my least favorite Red ever. Never hated a player's game (or lack thereof) like I do his.

What perplexes me is why give a 2 year deal to a guy that comprises only 2% of your teams at bats?

Is he just a coach in training now?

EE's teacher?

Expensive coach, money and other aspects.

Re: Castro signs extension

I don't mind bringing him back for next year, but I agree that it's dumb to give him a 2 year deal. I mean, it's not like there's going to be a bidding war for his services. A smart GM doesn't give longterm deals to marginal bench players that are not in demand.

Oh well, Marty will be happy to hear this.

Re: Castro signs extension

Juan Castro is an utter waste of a roster space and a complete waste of cash. Why the Reds continue to waste resources on him I'll never know.

Re: Castro signs extension

Why do this??

Juan must have a killer personality. I wouldn't have signed him to a one-year deal. Two years with an option for a third??? What a waste of time and money. :thumbdown

Sorry, but I think Krivsky stinks.

Re: Castro signs extension

No problem at all with this as long as its not huge money. Definatly seems like a leader. No offense good defense so add in his leadership then hes a fine bench player. I take all this back if the money part isnt good.
