Best wishes to Buddy Bell
http://news.enquirer.com/apps/pbcs.d...378/1072/SPT04
Growth on Bell's tonsils cancerous Baseball notebook THE ASSOCIATED PRESS MINNEAPOLIS - A surgically removed growth behind Royals manager Buddy Bell's left tonsil was cancerous, his doctor said Thursday. The biopsy revealed that tissue surrounding the growth, however, was free of cancer cells. The team made the announcement during Kansas City's game at Minnesota. Bell was examined by Dr. Michael Hinni, at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, Ariz., as a follow-up to the surgery he had last Friday. Hinni said the procedure was successful.

Re: Best wishes to Buddy Bell
Hasn't the guy been tortured enough as a manager in KC, Detroit, and Colorado?
Best wishes Buddy - here's to a full recovery and a winning team to manager very soon.

Re: Best wishes to Buddy Bell
No doubt - can you imagine the crap that Buddy would have taken today?
No speed, average power, average bat, good glove, but no range. OPS around .750 However, Nothing beats my dad grinning ear to ear watching a game when a guy with a "Bell 25" on the back of a Reds jersey took the field. He had to have felt like a kid again.

Re: Best wishes to Buddy Bell
Buddy's wife Gloria had cancer a few years ago as well. She has been cancer free since undergoing treatment. Buddy smokes like a chimney so it's no surprise he has also developed cancer. Wishing you a speedy recovery Buddy.

Re: Best wishes to Buddy Bell
get well soon Buddy Bell.
i always have liked Bell as a player, probably because my Dad absolutely loved him. i remember watching an old, old, old This Week in Baseball and they showed Bell making a diving stop to his left, using his momentum to shift his body while on his knees, and making the throw to first base to get the runner by half-a-step. i'm kinda surprised he still has his tonsils though.

Re: Best wishes to Buddy Bell
Was there ever a better DEFENSIVE 3rd baseman in Cincinnati? He is the best I ever saw play 3rd base as a Reds.

I've got mine, and I am 46. I also have my wisdom teeth.
I posted that in a baseball thread.

I think the school of thought on tonsilectomies has turned and now they're leaving 'em in more than in the 60's (my kids have theirs). From wikipedia. Most tonsillectomies are performed on children, though many are also performed on teenagers and adults. There has been a significant reduction in the number of tonsillectomies in the United States from several millions in the 1970s to approximately 600,000 in the late 1990s.
