The Reds will either pick 15th or 16th. The Reds 80-82 record tied with the Texas Rangers. Does anyone know how the tie is broken? This could be huge because the top half of the draft would not have to give up a first round pick for a type A free agent.

My guess is that both teams will qualify for the top tier, meaning neither would forfeit a pick. No way they force one team, but not the other, to sacrifice their top draft choice based on a coin flip.

Reds get 15th pick because they had a worse record than the Rangers in 2005.

Cincinnati's 2006 record was identical to the Rangers, but the tiebreaker favored the Reds because Texas had more wins in 2005 (79 to 73).

The compensation rules are subject to change, however, once the collective bargaining agreement expires in December and a new agreement is reached.

Thanks for the info. The Reds should still get a pretty good player with the 15th pick.
