Hard to blame DanO on that one. Moves like this rarely panned out.

We got the guy for nothing, spent an immaterial cost hoping he gets passed his injuries, and if he does there is a pretty good return for the price you paid.

Balfour had a great arm. If he can make a full recovery at any point in the future, the team that's got him is going to be mighty happy.

I would guess that he cost the Reds nearly 500k, I wouldn't call that immaterial. It is not back breaking but the money was not well spent.

I would call it immaterial. 500K gets you nothing, but a risk, like Balfour.

Now the Reds can pick up Balfour when the Brewers decide not to offer him arbitration. His salary this year was $350k.
