Jerry Narron receives Manager of the Year votes
1 second place vote and 3 thirds for 6 points. Thought that should get some opinions going!
For the record, he finished 6th, with Joe Girardi winning. Jim Leyland won in the AL. |

Re: Jerry Narron receives Manager of the Year votes
Well, no matter how bad some think he was, he took a team that was picked last from the get-go, and kept them in contention the whole time, I think he deserved more consideration then he got.

When was the last time a manager got fired after a season in which he won Manager of the Year? Has it ever happened?

I think Baltimore canned Davy Johnson on the day he won it in 1997.

Re: Jerry Narron receives Manager of the Year votes
I had Jerry's back in the beginning....I also changed my tone a bit as the season went on, because he kept making the same mistakes time and time again.
I also said it was premature to sign him to his extension. With that, he did deserve some votes based on how this team was supposed to finish and how they did stay in contention unil, mathematically, game 160. Of course, you can debate on if it were more him, or the crappy NL Central...

Finishing 6th out of 16 when his team had a little better W-L than expected for most of the season seems reasonable.

Who picked the Reds for last? Out of town media folks who don't follow the Reds at all. The same group that just yesterday failed to give Aaron Harang or Bronson Arroyo any votes for the Cy Young award.

Re: Jerry Narron receives Manager of the Year votes
Everyone who picked the Reds 5th or 6th, picked the Reds before they got Arroyo and Brandon Phillips, 2 major key starters.
