Garland is not cheap, and not particularly good. I like Crede, but Pod stinks.

Encarnacion has a great stick for a thirdbaseman. It makes no sense to to move him to first, where he would simply block Votto.

Scott Podsednick is a slightly worse version Ryan Freel. Garland would make a nice #3 starter, which is where the deal gains a little steam. I don't think it's a horrible trade offer in terms of fairness. In fact, I think most Sox fans would turn it down in heartbeat. However, Crede has reached his upside potential. Dunn just had a down year. Buying high and selling low is rarely a winning strategy.

Good lord...I don't need convincing that Dunn is a great dude, but sometimes it's nice to have it verified. And I think Joe Crede is a great little deal as a third baseman...a great defensive asset, but offensively, he's not going to climb up from this year.

1) Disclaimer: I wouldn't make this trade in any way, shape or form.

2) I seriously find it amazing how any discussion can get twisted into Adam Dunn's favor. A few points that I think are, at the very least, questionable:

a) Crede's OPS is on the way up and Dunn's is on the way down. Therefore, this is in favor of Dunn?

b) Success that is driven by a higher BA and SLG is bad? Come on...I know this board is OBP addicted, but putting someone down because their "success" in the league is based on getting hits and XBHs is a bit ridiculous. Someone should inform Vlad that he better stop getting hits and start walking more or else the HOF will shut him out. Obviously an exaggeration but still relevant.

3) Crede will probably cost at least $8-9 million less than Dunn over the next 2 years. And 2009 is his first FA eligible year for him. If they wanted, the CWS could lock him up right now at much less of a price than Dunn is costing.


So remember, I am not advocating this trade in a million years. I am only advocating fair and balanced discussions when it comes to Adam Dunn.
