Who is RedsZone's #3 Prospect?

So far, two landslides:

1. Homer Bailey
2. Jay Bruce

Adding a few names to the list here.

Notes on a few players:

I've seen Chris Denorfia on a few prospect lists, but I'm not planning on including him here.

Norris Hopper, Miguel Perez and Bobby Livingston, on the other hand, have had such brief cups of coffee that I'm inclined to include them if that's OK. Good news for all you Miguel Perez fans...

I am unsure of the status of Brendan Harris. Is he currently Reds property?

Few things
1. Its Janish, not Janisch
2. Put up the previous vote winners in the original post.

I voted Joey Votto. In my mind, he is the clear cut #3 prospect the Reds have.

1. Will fix in subsequent polls. Danger in doing this stuff from memory. Must remember to double-check.

2. Fixed.

Re: Who is RedsZone's #3 Prospect?

I voted Votto. Not the highest ceiling, but guys who have proven themselves in AA aren't exactly common around here. The 24 steals at a 75% success rate are merely icing on the cake.

BTW, I love the thread series! You might want to post the criteria for naming a winner as well. First player to X votes with X% -- if not, runoff, etc.

Harris is in DFA pergatory right now, it'll be a few days before that question can be answered.

Re: Who is RedsZone's #3 Prospect?

Votto IMO is the best bet of all the prospects.

1. Pitchers are iffy (but I voted Homer #1)
2. Its a long way from low A to the majors and the biggest jump is to AA.

I voted Votto 2 earlier and would have taken Bruce here, so I vote Votto.

Re: Who is RedsZone's #3 Prospect?

I voted Cueto. Votto is a solid prospect, but his ceiling is limited. An 850 OPS at 1B, while solid and certainly above Cincinnati's nominal standards, is, in the grand scheme of all things major league, ho hum.

Cueto's ceiling is much, much higher. His fastball is electric and his secondary pitches are above average. 20 years old, he's put up a 15-3 season, with an ERA of 3.00 and more K's than IP. Too, he averaged only one baserunner per inning and held opponents to a .202 BA.

Sure, he has a couple concerns. He's small-framed and this is his first really good season, but those numbers scream for comparisons to Oswalt and Martinez (not that he's in their league yet), other small-framed pitchers who know a couple things around the mound.

Bailey, Bruce & Votto are the top 3 no matter how you rank them.

After that it gets more interesting. It seems we have some good other prospects but they are a long way from the big leagues.

Votto is my No. 2...but as is...I'll vote him No. 3 because after him, there is a whole lot of empty space in the Reds system.

What makes you think Votto will put up an .850 OPS? His OPS in AA was .957, and was 80 points higher than the next closest guy in his entire league. Not that I am argueing Cueto being a lesser prospect, but what gives the impression that Votto has a limited cieling of n .850 OPS?

Re: Who is RedsZone's #3 Prospect?

I voted Cueto. Dude has some sick stuff. I could argue he has a better all round arsenal of pitches then Homer. Votto is going to win the poll, but I would take Cueto over him.
