I'd like to see Homer actually throw a MLB pitch before ranking him ahead of Pedro Martinez.

When I saw this said three Reds, I thought that maybe someone was a really big Kyle Lohse fan.
btw, I see these are all starting pitchers, unless I'm missing something. |

Interesting. In theory, they're saying we have an average #1 starter, a top #2 starter, and a bad #3 starter.

So how much money would Harang get if he was a free agent in this market? 5yr 75mil?

I don't agree that Sheets is #6 seeing his injury history. Yeah the potential is there; but the performance as of late has not.

As long as Roger Clemens is breathing, he's a better pitcher than all but 1 or 2 of the guys on the list. I would probably say he's still the best. He'll be back in May.

I agree. In fact, seeing him on the list immediately made me question the value of the rest of the list.

Re: ESPN Top 50 NL Pitchers (3 Reds)
You know Lohse gets a bad rap IMO. I went back through and watched some of the games he pitched and he really does have some good stuff. Most of his pitches has some good sink to them and he has just enough juice to sneak the fastball by upstairs too. I think with his age (28 all of next year) and his stuff he is primed to have a breakout year in 2007. I really can't see why he couldn't pitch as well as Bronson and Harang. I also hope Livingston and Homer makes the rotation and Milton is gone. Just think if Livingston the soft throwing lefty flipping that sinking pitch up there all night could really get batters off balance and then the next night Homer is out there throwing that 95 mph heater by them and then have Bronson throwing those curves by them the next night. To Dream.

Re: ESPN Top 50 NL Pitchers (3 Reds)
Lohse has the stuff to be a good major league pitcher, but for whatever reason, he hasn't put things together, and he's been around a while. I don't know if Pole's the type of coach who can get him to do it, but given Lohse's track record, I'm not holding out a lot of hope. Still, he's the number three starter right now in my book, at least, though I would guess he's officially number four. At any rate, he's likely in the rotation and will get his shot.
Like others have said, though, I think the Reds could do worse than try him out in the back end of the bullpen. He seems to me to be a good candidate to try a transition into a closer role. If the team could convince him it's in his best interests (and, as we know, he hasn't reacted well to bullpen duty in the past), it would be worth a try. That's all getting a bit off subject, though. |

Re: ESPN Top 50 NL Pitchers (3 Reds)
^ I agree, I think Lohse would be an excellent closer. He has the stuff, the attitude, and having him come in and face 5-6 hitters would be right up his alley, rather than trying to pace himself.

Re: ESPN Top 50 NL Pitchers (3 Reds)
He may have a mean streak in his attitude, but he also has an "I don't want to pitch relief" streak which might counteract that.

Well... I think we're going to find out with Lohse. Looks like he will be filling Claussen's spot.
