Reds Top 2 Draft Picks from 2000 Now With Detroit
I glanced at the Transactions for today and notice among the list of non-roster Spring Training invitees for the Tigers is none other than Dane Sardinha. He'll be joining David Espinosa in the Tigers system.
As I recall, Bowden did something with both of them in signing them that put them on the 40 man roster earlier than they would have (something similiar to what the Yankees did with Wily Mo, IIRC). Am I remembering that correctly? joe |

That's it. Didn't work out all that well.

Yep, he signed them to major league contracts. I said at the time that it's hard enough having one of those contracts in the minors let alone two in the same draft....then Bowden traded for another one in Wily Mo Pena... Is it any surprise why our farm system is what it is?

As others have pointed out, JimBo and DanO gave us gifts that just keep on giving.

That's an amazing statement." |

After the Ammy Draft this year, I will then pass full judgment on Wayne Krivsky.
Selecting Stubbs was a little suspect for 2006, but if Wayne doesn't address a team need, or doesn't select the best available player when we're up in 2007, then I just can't rally behind him as our GM. JimBo certainly wasn't good when drafting players outside of Dunn and Kearns, and DanO's only semi claim to fame will be Homer Bailey. Hopefully Krivsky will reverse that trend. |

I thought Bowden picked Votto? Wasn't '04 Dan O's first draft?

We can't really give a final grade for Dan-o's drafts just yet, but from the way things are shaping up, his few years here actually turned out some very solid draft picks. You start with Bruce and Bailey. as well, there are quite a few other guys drafted after them who are very promissing.

Willy Mo Peņa begat depth in the outfield. Depth in the outfield begat Bronson Arroyo.
