Re: Instructional League Awards

I don't know the season lengths, but just glancing at the stats, they look like decent numbers. I presume we'll see most of the Billings players at Dayton this year and Lutz will be there or at Sarasota. Would those be correct assumptions you think?

Re: Instructional League Awards

The stats were all for their regular season. The thing I find interesting is three of the winners are from the Latin ranks (Phipps, Francisco, and Viola). By and large those guys are just names to most of us.

So it looks like three of them bear watching.

Re: Instructional League Awards

Thanks Jax. All I'd heard about was Lutz. AS you say, nice to see some of the young Latin players get props. Also, I'm prety sure that unless he has injury problems Justin Turner will be a Red.

Re: Instructional League Awards

Viola's the only one who hasn't played in the US.

Phipps was a NDFA. Maybe a scrapper.

Re: Instructional League Awards

Viola was one of four intriguing pitchers on the Reds' DSL squad, along with Wirfin Obispo, Enerio Del Rosario and Ramon Geronimo.

Anyone know who won instructional league awards for the Reds in previous years. I'm curious to see if they've been any sort of precursor to breakout seasons.

I haven't seen this tracked anywhere, and I doubt a consolidated source exists. All I recall from last year was that Lecure was the outstanding pitcher -- precursor to a nice breakout, and John Purdom was the hitter -- precursor to a fall, flat on the face.

"Phipps was a NDFA."

He's from the Domincam Republic, you sure he was a NDFA?

Well, I guess he wasn't, then. I guess I assumed he was from the US.
