Aurilia
Just saw Rich at Starbucks here in Scottsdale a couple of hours ago.
Dude looks in much better shape than last year. Seriously. Doesn't look that old at all. I know he wasn't the most popular Red @ RedsZone, but he sure gave us a lift w/ his bat when we needed him last year. Does anyone know how much he ended up signing for? |

Re: Aurilia
Yikes... too rich for our blood.
Well, here's hoping somebody steps up offensively, we know Gonzalez won't. |

Rotoworld also reported this a couple of days ago regarding Aurilia.

Re: Aurilia
He was one of the Reds best players last year, but for some reason everyone here hated him. It made a lot of sense....

Re: Aurilia
I dont think anyone hated him. A lot of us just didnt understand why he was taking away at bats from Edwin Encarnacion.

It all boiled down to cost effectiveness (what's a player worth) and affordability. But looking at what the market is paying even average players these days, is what Aurilia got from the Giants a bad deal IF he continues to contribute/produce?

Re: Aurilia
I confess to hating him. But not for him. But for what his presence meant, blocking the way first of Lopez, and then EE.

Re: Aurilia
Aurilia at 2B and 1B I had no problem with. Aurilia at SS and 3B I had a big problem with.

Re: Aurilia
Here is my view on Rich.
In 05, he made a lot of noise about not playing. He took at bats away from Lopez and complained a lot in the paper. He had a solid bat, but was a statue defensively. I disliked Rich for how he spouted off in the paper and sounded like a pompous ass, and I disliked Narron for how he used Rich. I loved the fact we brought Rich in. I thought he was a great signing as a backup 2B/SS/3B, but I wanted him to play that role. In 06, Rich kept his mouth shut most of the year. And he stepped up his game at the plate a bunch. I liked the change in him and I liked his production. He was far better than I had hoped he would be coming over. I disliked Narron for the fact that he played Rich at 3B so much over EE because EE needed the time to develop and EE had far better range than Rich with a better bat. But I loved Rich as a platoon guy with Hatte and backup to SS and 2B. Once Felipe was dealt, and our options were Clayton, Castro and Rich, I wanted to see Rich every day at SS, because the defense for all three, range wise, was horrid and Rich had far and away the best bat. But Narron didn't go there until late in the year. Going into 07, I would have loved to have Rich back in that platoon 1B, backup MI role at 2-3M per. But with the numbers he put up, it was obvious he was going to make more money elsewhere and get a shot to start. I think at his age, he is a very high likelihood of getting nowhere close to the numbers he put up last year again. And as a starter, he is a liability. But as a backup in the role I outlined above, he could be a big asset to a team. I think SF is going to be very disappointed with what they get out of him, but I am glad for Rich that he got his money. |

Re: Aurilia
I don't think money was the deciding factor for Rich signing with SF. He wanted a starting position and that possibility looked much better in SF. No one here wanted to hand him a starting job, neither did Krivsky.
Best of luck to him in SF... |
