Rockies release Danny Graves

Quote:
Rockies released RHP Danny Graves.

Graves gave up six earned runs and had a 0/7 K/BB ratio in four innings this spring.

Could this be the end of the line for our all-time saves leader?

Re: Rockies release Danny Graves

That's a shame.
But, I would be surprised if no other team picked him up - there seems to be a market for dead-armed relievers. My money is on him going to KC, Tampa Bay or Washington.

Well, you know...the Reds don't have a current REAL closer...

And picking up Danny Graves would leave them in the same situation

No Ks and 7 walks in four innings? Sounds as if he is in mid-season form.

This is kind of a shocker...Coors field seemed like it would be a good fit for him....

They'll probably make a starter out of him.

Re: Rockies release Danny Graves

Danny Graves was successful in 15 of his last 17 save attempts as a REDS player before he was DFA'd on May 22, 2005. Weathers took over after Graves got DFA'd and was 15 of 19 in 2005.

In 2006 as a team the REDS had 34 saves and 21 blown saves. Weathers was 12 of 18. Guardardo was 8 of 10. Coffey was 7 of 11.

In closing... since Graves had 41 saves in 2004 the REDS have needed a real closer. I know, I know... tell ya something you don't know.

He has closed in the past. That seems to be an important qualification a far as the Reds are concerned.
