Coffey hit 98???? (mph)
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/previe...rry&id=2809709
Good article. Although I am thinking about calling shenanigans on Coffey hitting 98. I have nothing to back that up though. |

Re: Coffey hit 98????
Hanson would have hit 98 for the Red Sox today if they'd left him in long enough.
Wait a minute...that's not what you mean....

Re: Coffey hit 98???? (mph)
Coffey had been known to run it up to 97 in the minors.
Maybe it wasn't an exaggeration.

Joel Zumaya...104! OUCH! Too bad Junior took him to the house with 3 ducks on the pond!

Re: Coffey hit 98???? (mph)
Ive seen games in which Coffey was clocked at 96-97 mph, but he seems to usually be around 93-95 mph.

Oh, and on the throw by Lopez - i blame it more on Richie and his lack of ability at 1b...but who cares now.

According to that article, Gary Majewski once hit 99 MPH for the Washington Nationals.
Imagine how much money the Newtown Police would be able to make if they had that particular radar gun in one of their patrol cars.

Re: Coffey hit 98???? (mph)
Wait a minute. Isn't the official fastest pitch record still held by Nolan Ryan at 102?
No doubt guys like Zumaya can dial it up, but I'm skeptical of 104.

Re: Coffey hit 98???? (mph)
They both had some blame in that, but if Lopez doesn't one hop the throw RA never has to pick it. I'm no RA fan, either.

Re: Coffey hit 98???? (mph)
I was in Lakeland watching the Reds last week, and lets just say that Zumaya throws a legit 102-103 mph. He left me in absolute awe. Although as much as i enjoyed seeing him pitch, I enjoyed BP smoking one of those fastballs right up the middle for a base hit even more

Re: Coffey hit 98???? (mph)
I've watched some games where Zumaya has hit triple digits more than a few times in a game, but normally sits at about 98-99
Verlander gets it up there too doesn't he? |
