RH Bat...

We need one, pretty badly IMO.

2B Jorge Cantu
2B Jamey Carroll
OF Reggie Sanders
OF Emil Brown
OF Marcus Thames
OF Jonny Gomes

We could use another Outfielder, or maybe even an infielder.

Re: RH Bat...

Is Gomes really an OFer, or is he a DH that has a position listed?

He was primarily a DH last year, only logging 8 games in RF. It looks like he split time between RF, LF, and DH in 2005.

Re: RH Bat...

Jonny Gomes is a younger, right handed Russ Branyan who plays worse defense. He absolutely kills lefties. Give him 250 AB versus lefties and he'll probably go .270/.400/.520 with 15 homers.

The problem of course is where to you play him? Doesn't Conine already fit our righty bat off the bench role?

Re: RH Bat...

So we'd only want him out there in an emergency and he'd essentially be a RH PH off the bench.

I'll pass on him unless its a trade for David Ross or Chad Moeller.

Out of those choices, I'd take Thames. Not sure what the Tigers would want. You might be able to get Brown for the cheapest in return though.

Re: RH Bat...

I like Gomes but we already have a ton of high strikeout homerun guys. If we need any bats we need guys that hit for average and get on base. However, I'm not convinced we need an upgrade at any position yet. We are two weeks into the season...... the bats will wake up.
