There are many more people I'd rather have in AAA right now than the Majors.

Belisle start was exactly the demonstration why(actually all of his starts outside his 3rd) why should be in the rotation up untill he can no longer be effective over a period of time, the key is consistancy. Dumatrait should be started in the bullpen first before even thinking about starting. He has been killer on lefties but less effective against righties.

And so far this year righties are hitting .164 against Dumatrait. Lefties just .100 against him.

That league is usually hard on young hitters -- Bruce shouldn't be having as easy a time as he has been with it. I'm eager to see if he can keep his production high (OBP of over. 380) on a couple of cycles through the league. We all know he's a special player, but his performance here should give a pretty good picture of what his timetable will be.

I went through the data from 2002-2006 for every player in the FSL under age 21 (ranges from 18-20, but mostly 20 year olds) and the average line for a guy under 21 in the FSL is .260/.321/.380 for an OPS of .701. If you go with straight 20 year olds, the line goes to .259/.322/.378 for an even .700 OPS. 20 year old outfielders have a slightly better average line of .267/.330/.404 for an OPS of .734.

In the same time span just 3 players have had a slugging percentage of .500 or better, and only 1 player has OPS'd over .900. Jay Bruce and Cameron Maybin are both making this league look a lot easier than they should be.

Oh, I only included guys under 21 with at least 100 at bats, so anyone with under 100 at bats was not included, so no guys who just got a 1 or 2 game call up from the GCL or anything.

Thanks again for these guys. I don't usually have much to add, but I really enjoy reading the updates on a daily basis. I've been out with a back injury, so these are a welcome read in my pretty sad world right now, lol.


That said, is it normal for an entire farm system to have pitching this good for the entire first month of the season. It seems to me that damn near every single night, the Reds, from A up thru AAA are having stellar nights. Really incredible.

But what's up with Dumatrait's 1K tonight?

I only agree with you on the Milton replacement. A couple I could live with, but in no way do I want Burton in there over Coffey.

Would you happen to have a list of who the top young hitters in the FSL have been over that span? It would be nice to see what Bruce's comparables are.

Also note that James Loney came through the league at 19 and psoted a .737 OPS, Robinson Cano at 20 posted a .690 OPS, Hanley Ramirez at 20 posted a .753 OPS and Grady sizemore posted a .699 OPS at age 20. The league has been pretty brutal on a lot of good hitters.

Chattanooga bats are hot as well as their defense. Lecure struggled walking 4 while striking out 4 and allowing 7 hits.
