Any idea what the ailment is? Sounds like another Jared Burton/Eric Milton injury to me

Re: Saarloos DFA

The same Sarloos we just traded a living breathing human for in the off season?

WK is on a roll.

So, every time a player is cut we have to go through this now?

I mean what players who are cut aren't obtained without a pittance of cost?

Re: Saarloss DFA'd

I thought Saarloos would have a decent year for the Reds. I figured with his sinker and the change of leagues would do him some good. I missed the boat on that one. He started out looking good out of the bullpen in his first few appearances but it was all downhill after that. That trade appears to be a wash because David Shafer is pitching horribly in triple-A.

You don't find WK's trend in this department a little disturbing?

I think its a pretty legitimate point of discussion when the GM is DFAing, or should be, guys in April and May that he was high enough on in Feb and March to trade for or extended contracts on.

I think that he traded a 24 year old AA player for him, I think all pitchers are a gamble, I think yes, I think he's had a poor run a picking up pitchers as of late. But I'll say it again, 24 year old AA pitcher was the cost, who also happens to be stinking. Baseball's a gamble and I'd rather see gambles like this then Dan O'Brien hand sitting. Kurts contract was 1.2 million IIRC, hardly a kings ransom.

Shafer has pitched as recently as May 23rd for the Sacramento Rivercats, the triple-a affiliate of the A's.

The trade is clearly a victory for Oakland and it was on day 1. Beane's goal was to get someone else to pay Saarloos.
