Re: 500 Saves For Trevor Hoffman

Proof of what it takes to succeed in this business...adjustments at every level including the Majors.

Hoffman was on his way out after a few years in the Majors as he had lost his fastball. According to his own words, he knew he had to do something and he came up with one of the best pitches in the Majors and turned it into a Hall-of-Fame career.

That's an example where Pecota and FIPS are clueless, as they can't measure what's in a player's head.

Re: 500 Saves For Trevor Hoffman

This guy has become one of the most dominant pitchers at his position, yet his name is rarely mentioned among the elite.

First ballot HOF, but is it because he doesn't have the rocket arm?

What, do you think the Reds could have used a relief pitcher such as Hoffman?
Hoffman should make the Hall of Fame on the first ballot.

Re: 500 Saves For Trevor Hoffman

Congratulations to Hoffman - I do hope he does go to the Hall (as well as a few other deserved relievers).
Oh, but how I wish he could have done it with the Reds.

Oh well. Time to wish in one hand and....

Ah the one that got away. Great accomplishment for Hoffman, a definite first ballot hall of famer. Congrats to him on 500.

Hoffman is living proof that you don't have to overpower a hitter to dominate them. You don't need a 95mph fastball; you can make hitters looks silly with good control and a Bugs Bunny changeup.
