Trades or No Trades

Is this team going to make some trades or take their lumps this year and rebuild in the off season?

I'd do both.. Names like Conine, Hatteberg, Weathers, and perhaps Lohse could net you some decent prospects. Dunn is still the head scratcher. I personally would deal him. I wouldn't deal him though if you're not getting value in return. Then in the offseason they can see what things need to be addressed and fill those needs.

I think there will be trades, just nothing big. The likes of Conine, Hateberg, Freel, Weathers. I don't think they'll get any studs in the process.

I think Wayne will be fighting for his job, and I think he'll be dealing to do so. I would not be shocked if he dealt Dunn, but I'm afraid of what we'd get in return.

I have a feeling the market will not be favoring sellers this year. Young, cheap major league ready prospects don't make much money and can provide salary room for a team's budget. Remember last year when Bowden couldn't get what he wanted for a red-hot Soriano and the Brewers had to include top outfield prospect Nelson Cruz with Carlos Lee just to complete a deal.

My gut says that Wayne will give this group about 2 more weeks too see if they can have any sustained success under Mackanin. If they do show some turnaround he may stand pat. If they show us the same 'ole thing, it's goodbye Vets and perhaps even Griffey and Dunn.

The list of folks dealt should look this way IMO:

Conine
Hatteberg (I would hate to see him go, but unless Votto plays LF it has to happen)
Griffey if Wayne is bowled over by an offer.
Stanton or Weathers (only if Guardado comes back or looks as though he will)
Lohse
Freel (only if he is bowled over yet again)


Dunn should only be dealt if we are getting equal or better value. I know I have at times voiced displeasure with him, but he does have "value" and we should be looking to get a deal that will have truly solid impact on us in the near future. If we can't get that deal he has more value to us, especially if he carries over what he has done so far to this point over into his grueling months of Aug. and Sept. and with the weight loss in the offseason he may have put himself over the proverbial hump. I expect that in itself raises his said value.

Guys I would be hard pressed to deal:
Salmon
McBeth
Burton
Bray
Coutlangus
Coffey

Everyone else could be had for the right price but aren't likely to be valued enough to deal. All that being said I think one way or another he's dealin' before the deadline.

I think the Reds should be dealing but I get the feeling they won't because Krvisky is under "win now" orders.

theyre still showing "come see Griffey commercials" during Reds games, so no way theyre trading Jr until at least the off season.

I think Jr. is going to be traded to Atlanta soon. That's just a guess, but I could see it.

They SHOULD be dealing, absolutely. There are very few players here who I would consider untouchable, and many that are must-get-rid-ofs.
Unfortunately, during his conversation with Chris and George last night, Bob seemed to under the impression that a couple of moves could actually put the team over the top this year.

Twenty games under .500 at this point of the season? There should be no sacred cows. And if Krivsky doesn't make moves he should be fired because he put this motley crew together.

Like others, I think the lesser names will be traded: Lohse, Hatteberg, Weathers, etc.

I'm 50/50 on whether I think Dunn will be moved. I think they might wait until either the offseason or next year.

I think the odds of Griffey being dealt are less than 5%.

If Cast has any idea's about going after Jocketty then If I'm him I tie Krivskys hands on major trades.The vets like Hatte and Conine go ahead.

A position which is supported by Cast's strange press conference mumblings about the idea of 'contending everyday right now.' Maybe he had confused the concept of competing everyday, with the actual process of contention. However, if Bob actually thinks we are a managerial change and a few tweaks away from contending right now, then this organization is even further off course than it's 20 games under .500 record would indicate. You can't take a club playing sub .400 ball, and try to contend now, while making mild renovations. I'm afraid Bob's animus towards going through the losses of a full rebuild, are going to land this franchise in the permanent limbo of neither contending now, nor in the future.

It's a fairly straightforward process to swap one 30-second commercial for another.
