Scott Williamson anyone?

Per rotoworld: Orioles designated RHP Scott Williamson for assignment.

The Orioles seemed almost afraid to use Williamson, though his 4.40 ERA in 14 1/3 innings made him one of the team's most effective relievers. He's only due $450,000 over the rest of the season, so maybe they'll get a minor prospect for him before they'd have to release him.

I'm not saying we could use him, just throwing his name out for discussion.

I hope the Reds stay away from Williamson. His days of being an effective healthy reliever are long gone.

I agree...Greg Vaughn was also good back in '99. But I wouldn't stick him in the lineup today. Granted...it does just seem like yesterday that Willie was lighting it up as a rookie...his injuries were a shame.

Re: Scott Williamson anyone?

Wow, Willy's only 31. I thought he was mid-30's at least. Sure wish we could have the 1999-2002 version right about now.

112 innings of 149 ERA+ in 2000....wow!

Yankees signed Williamson

http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/23/sp...in&oref=slogin

The Yankees signed the veteran Scott Williamson to a minor league contract and activated him at Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Williamson, the rookie of the year in 1999 when he was with the Reds, was designated for assignment by Baltimore on July 4. He was 1-0 with a 4.40 earned run average in 14 1/3 innings for the Orioles, walking eight and striking out 16. Against the Yankees in the 2003 American League Championship Series, Williamson saved all three of the Red Sox’ victories.

Re: Scott Williamson anyone?

whats the definition of insanity? Doing the same 8th inning over and over again but expecting different results?

I would have given him a shot. Guess Steinbrenner agrees.
