Reds Bull Pen - Year to Date
Code:
# YEAR NAME AGE IP BABIP WHIP H9 BB9 SO9 HR9 ERA 1. 2007 David Weathers 37 54.7 .281 1.13 7.74 2.47 6.75 0.33 3.29 2. 2007 Todd Coffey 26 44.3 .355 1.71 12.18 3.25 7.11 2.03 5.48 3. 2007 Victor Santos 30 44.0 .308 1.43 8.80 4.09 7.36 1.23 4.50 4. 2007 Mike Stanton 40 36.0 .369 1.67 12.00 3.00 6.50 0.75 5.25 5. 2007 Jon Coutlangus 26 34.7 .275 1.53 7.27 6.49 7.53 0.78 3.89 6. 2007 Kirk Saarloos 28 24.3 .346 1.82 11.83 4.55 5.46 0.91 8.19 7. 2007 Brad Salmon 27 20.7 .268 1.26 7.84 3.48 7.84 1.31 3.92 8. 2007 Michael Gosling 26 18.0 .386 2.06 9.50 9.00 10.50 1.00 4.50 9. 2007 Jared Burton 26 17.7 .277 1.58 7.13 7.13 7.64 0.51 4.08 10.2007 Marcus Mcbeth 26 10.7 .375 1.50 10.97 2.53 6.75 0.84 7.59 11 2007 Gary Majewski 27 5.7 .556 3.00 25.41 1.59 4.76 1.59 15.88 12 2007 Ricky Stone 32 5.3 .200 1.31 11.81 0.00 5.06 6.75 10.13 But there are some rays of light. And it's not all David Weathers solid performance. And interestingly, its the young guys. Jon Coutlangus: Converted position guy in his first real year in the big leagues. And he's a lefty. His WHIP is mediocre at best, however, check out the K/9 and HR/9. Not too shabby. Yes, his BB/9 is gaudy, but he's also very young. It's not like he's been pitching since he was 15. If (a big if) he's used correctly (ie. not Narrons main goto guy) he could be a young, usefull and cheap arm for a few years. Brad Salmon: Very small sample issues asside, his WHIP is approaching decent and he sports a 7.84 K/9. That's something to work with, no? He's got one of the lower H/9 on the team (again note small samples) and one of the lowest BB/9 on the team. Jared Burton: Decent K/9 and HR/9 numbers. And young. And cheep. Again, not making the case he's a wunderkind. Just saying there's a framework there to work with. Marcus McBeth: Still a big ? Bill Bray: Stil a big ? Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying these guys are fantastic studs. But if we could wave a magic wand and import some pitching development know-how into the Reds organization I believe they could be made into something usefull to the team. There is some young tallent amoungst the wreckage of the 2007 bullpen train-wreck. Can it be nurtured and devloped? That's a huge question. Unfortunatley, these few bright-spots are totally overshadowed by the horrific performances of the Stantons, Coffeys, Majewski's, etc (talk about shooting yourself in the foot.) and their success may be hampred by a shody pitching development situation.

Re: Reds Bull Pen - Year to Date
Personally I'd like to see Salmon, Bray and McBeth all recalled. Send Coffey and Santos down . Start Gosling if Harang is stilll out and send Dumatrait back to Louisville. I don't care if Bray gives us a 4th lefty in the pen , get the better arms up here and see what they can do.

I just wish I had enough optimisim in me to believe that an orginization that has been so unable to develop pitching will somehow figure out how to do so with these young lads.

Re: Reds Bull Pen - Year to Date
Salmon definitely should be recalled. I'd option Coffey and swap. I'd also like to see the Reds put Stanton on waivers and see if anyone claims him.
