Elizardo to start Saturday.

Don't know if this is posted anywhere yet, it didn't come up in a search anyway, but Elizardo is listed as the starter for Saturday now.

Re: Elizardo to start Saturday.

I like it! Seems like he's been around awhile, but he's just 24. PECOTA had him at a 5.07 ERA for 2007. Certainly has limited upside, but I think he could be a solid, above average, back of the rotation guy on the cheap through his arb years. That said, I'm not quite sure he offers anything we couldn't already get from Belisle. Any whispers of Belisle going back to relief?

At this juncture, it seems that either Belisle or the lizard are better options than Phil D. I'm not convinced any of them are worthy of the rotation, though...

At least last year when EZ went to the mound I didn't expect 7 runs to be surrendered each time. With PD i do.

No, I agree with you. Phil D is definitely the worst option. I'm just not sure any of those 3 are good enough for any rotation not named the Reds.

Belisle has pitched once now at Louisville. He started, pitched six innings, gave up 4 runs (2 earned), 7 hits, 2 walks, and 7 K's.

Looks like they are keeping him stretched out to start for now....

I think the last part is key. Belisle could really be usefull in the pen. And if you get no fall-off in the rotation by sticking Elizardo in there, its a slam dunk.

Keep plugging them out there. Someone will develop.

Re: Elizardo to start Saturday.

It wouldn't be a Reds season until Elizardo Ramirez or DeWayne Wise make an appearance on the 25 man roster.

How we doin so far?

Re: Elizardo to start Saturday.

Who goes to make room for the Lizard King? My guess is Phil Dumatrait or Victor Santos.

I say Santos. If your the Reds you still want to give Phil 2-3 evaluation starts.

I agree. They could designate Santos for assignment, lose him, and still have someone just like him waiting at Louisville if necessary in Kirk Saarloos.

If they send down Dumatrait (who is scheduled to start Monday vs. the Braves), then they would likely have to move Livingston up one day, and recall Belisle for Tuesday's game. (I think Tuesday is the earliest Belisle can be recalled.)

He's already had 3 and 2 of them were absolutely brutal. I'm not sure he's worthy of 2-3 more. I'd give him at least 1 more, but if he implodes again, time to send him back down to 3a.
