Brandon Webb weaving his way towards history?
Through 5 innings tonight, Brandon Webb has thrown shutout baseball vs. the Braves, to extend his scoreless innings streak to 38 innings. That is absolutely mind-boggling. Initially, I didn't think this guy had a shot at Orel's record. But who knows...

Re: Brandon Webb weaving his way towards history?
He's thrown 8 scoreless now. Up to 41 innings.

He's making this look like a video game. Actually, I don't even know if I could do this on a video game on beginner.

Complete game shutout for Webb. 42 scoreless innings. Wow.

Re: Brandon Webb weaving his way towards history?
I proposed a Dunn for Webb trade a couple years ago.
I was mocked, ridiculed, and laughed at.

That's a normal day here. I don't think your trade proposal had anything to do with it...

If we had Webb he'd have torn his shoulder in 3 places.
Call it Reds luck.

Re: Brandon Webb weaving his way towards history?
I believe his record is 59 consecutive scoreless innings.

Re: Brandon Webb weaving his way towards history?
Brandon Webb is simply fantastic. Per THT, he's owns the fourth highest Ground Ball rate in the game (60.2%) and he's the only pitcher with a GB rate over 45% with a K/G rate over 8.0 (7.90 K/9 IP). The next closest comp with a K/G rate over 8.0 is Jake Peavy at 10.1 K/G (9.48 K/9) and a GB rate of 44.8%. The fact that Webb produces these kind of numbers while pitching half his games in a major offensive ballpark only highlights how good he actually is.
Peavy is likely the frontrunner for the NL Cy Young, but Webb is a true historical gem playing in a much tougher park. But that being said, these are fantastic times when we can very easily watch both Webb and Peavy dominate on a consistent basis.

Re: Brandon Webb weaving his way towards history?
The next two teams he's scheduled to face are the Brewers and the Padres. I don't know if he could handpick it any better than that, to be honest.

Re: Brandon Webb weaving his way towards history?
Since this thread is on the Diamondbacks, I'm sure this is noted somewhere around here, but I just noticed today that they have the best record in the NL at 70-53 with a large deficit in runs scored/runs against. They have to be going for the "luckiest" ever record.

Re: Brandon Webb weaving his way towards history?
The scary thing is, this is the time of the year when sinkerballing pitchers supposedly get better stuff as they begin to tire.
