Re: 8/24/07 - Reds vs. Marlins - Game Thread

Marlins have a decision to make on to whom to offer arbitration....

Willis or Cabrera?

If they pick Cabrera....is Willis worth a look? I say YES - he's not having the best year this year, but he's only 25, and we KNOW what kind of pitcher he can be.

Fay thinks both Votto and Bruce will get a call in September.

they will offer both arbitration, with Willis then being trade at some point between then and July 31st

Players like that aren't non-tendered, they are traded if they are not affordable.

That was.....odd.

9-4-2-6-4 was the out, the zip code for Almieda, CA, the home town of Dontrelle Willis

That was certainly a strange play.

But a very good play by Phillips.

Wow...that was a ride on the tilt-a-whirl.

Nice recovery by BPhil.

I heart the overgrown monkey on the pitching mound.

Phillips saved at least 1 run by getting that throw from Valentin that would have went into center.

I like BPhils sense of humor. When he came up to throw without the ball on Willis' hit he made a show of throwing air. And then, of course, the big giant smile.

Sad when Aaron Harang has the best at-bat during an inning.

Can Ellison even hit it past the pitcher?

Good point.

Looks like Willis is pitching to the level of competition, though he's not striking anyone out.

Cito Gaston won Two World Series managing that way....playing the same guys in the same spots using the same lineup card every night for two years.
