Does this mean the Reds are out of "win now" mode?

after the Pirates finish their sweep of the Reds as guess the lose now mode will be back.

There is really no way to describe batting Gonzo 2nd instead of Hatty, it's back to this entire breaking up the lefties theory that seems to always drive batting order placement if you are a Reds manager. Of course it won't matter if they can't get to Snell and the construction of the lineup certainly isn't going to maximize their chances.

I just looked at the numbers, Gonzalez is 4-7 lifetime against Snell. I'm sure that played some part in the lineup construction.

It's the most popular station in Cincinnati, isn't it?

If it MUST be that way then freakin' put EE in the 2 hole and Gonzo 8th.

actually any choice in the 2 hole would be better than Gonzo, he needs to be the #8 hitter in that lineup.

Re: 8/29/2007 Reds vs Buccos

Code:
2007 PA/Outs

Hamilton 1.52
Gonzalez 1.39
Griffey 1.59
Phillips 1.39
Dunn 1.54
Valentin 1.47
Hatteberg 1.59
Encarnacion 1.51

Castro (Career) 1.31
Ellison (Career) 1.34
I must say I do find it utterly humorous that in tonight's lineup, the two hitters with the worst ratio of outs per plate appearance are both directly batting in front of the team's two best power hitters.

Griffey bats third and Dunn bats fifth, Cyclone. It's like the catcher bats eighth rule. Whoever hits in front of them is arbitrary.

nothing like having your out machines at the top of the order.

Yep, anything else would be illegal.

BTW, PA/Outs correlates with runs per game at a 0.893 clip in the NL so far this season. BA w/RISP, for comparison, only correlates with runs per game at a 0.351 clip in the NL so far this season.

Don't tell Marty, though.
