Re: Prince Fielder: Youngest To Hit 50 HR's
Congrats to Prince -- he's really an extraordinary talent.
I'm sorry to hear about his relationship with Cecil, though. Not so much because it's sad, but because it means someone will probably read that article, decide to meddle in the Fielders' lives, and subject them to a staged public "reconciliation", much like former NFL great Ken Norton Jr. and his father.

Re: Prince Fielder: Youngest To Hit 50 HR's
It strikes me that Cecil is a lousy dad and Prince is a lousy son. I thinks its sad.
Prince really didn't need to bring it up again, at least publicly.

The guy will eventually look like a human jelly bean, he might never hit 50 past the age of 30 because he's already in Bob Fothergill country.

Right now he's in a good market to be fawned over in some obscurity. I wonder how many more seasons Prince will be agile enough to play defense.
Given the Cecil-shaped chip on his shoulder, I suspect that he may be pressing this season to top dad's 51.

Yeah, but even 4-5 years of 50 HR ball is nice to watch.

Re: Prince Fielder: Youngest To Hit 50 HR's
I find it ironic that Prince is likely to follow pretty closely in his dad's footsteps. Cecil was 26 and in his first full season when he hit 51. He hit 44 the next year, and then averaged 33 the next 5 years. Those were followed by two mediocre years where he averaged 15 and really struggled with his weight. By age 35, after a few false starts and 9 full seasons he was out of the league.
It's great the Prince is off to a fast start and is a few years ahead of the old man. But I just can't see him aging well without getting weight conscious really soon.

Re: Prince Fielder: Youngest To Hit 50 HR's
Cecil put up a 167 OPS+ in 1990 compared 158 for Prince this year. If Prince does this a few more times, I'll get on board. For now...
