Reds pick up options on Dunn, Valentin, Hatteberg
Per Trent:
Just got a text from Rob Butcher -- the Reds have picked up the options on Dunn, Valentin and Hatteberg. They declined the option on Guardado. |

I assume that means no on Guardado? If so great all around.

There is a good start to the off-season. You know, if you don't count the Dusty thing that happened during the world series.

Re: Reds pick up options on Dunn, Valentin, Hatteberg
I'd say Hatte is just either trade bait or the back up/bench player.

Or Hatteburg trade bait. They'd have been really dumb not to pick his option up, cheap as it is.
Hatte would be a great guy to have filling in at 1B, Dh'ing and PH'ing off the bench, especially for an AL team who thinks they're close. Tigers? White Sox? |

I'm not saying I want to do it, but you have to trade something to get something......so it could be an option

According to Fay, Guardado will try to be resigned for a lesser rate...
I'm cool with that.

Re: Reds pick up options on Dunn, Valentin, Hatteberg
Hatteberg will be making around 2 Mill - why do you have to trade him or Votto?? Perfect spot starter and bench player.
Now, if they want to trade Votto cause they can get mega-return, then GO FOR IT. But I see no problem with both being on the 25 - thats just good thinking.

Re: Reds pick up options on Dunn, Valentin, Hatteberg
Whew...they didn't do anything stupid
I would not have been upset if they passed on Javy, but I don't mind as long as they only carry 2 catchers. I'm fine with Hatteberg as a bench player, or as a platoon 1b if they can use Votto to significantly upgrade their rotation or back end of their bullpen. Then again, I won't be upset if they trade Hatteberg for a prospect of some repute. |

I'm cool with that, too!
If he's cheap, can't hurt.
