Lincecum available?

Tracy Ringolsby is reporting that the Giants have let it be known that Lincecum can be had for a quality bat.

If true, does anyone else find it suspicious? What with the value being placed on quality, major-league ready young arms, why cough up Lincecum? Could it be that the way they backed him off late in the year was a sign that his arm was barking? Or are they SO desperate for offense that they're willing to give up a young pitcher who looked like he was on a trajectory to be dominant?

Very strange.

No way would I consummate a deal for him without running a full battery on his shoulder and elbow. But, I'd give up some serious talent for the chance.

He's either injured or this is just bad reporting. Guys like Lincecum aren't magically made available for a decent bat.

I'm sure they would trade him for Bruce, Votto/Hamilton and Cueto/Bailey

Of course we COULD HAVE DRAFTED HIM 2 years ago

little RHPers are like puppies. A lot of fun when young, but quick to become dogs whose owners alone seem to value

I'll gladly trade them Stubbs.

It wouldn't break my heart to throw in Mesorasco.

They'd have no interest in players who are years from the majors.

So play with them while they're still young (pre-arb years), then flip them before they get long in the tooth.

Although in this case, I think it's the old bait-and-switch. Sabean will make ridiculous demands for Lincecum, and just as you're about to hang up, he'll say, "while I've got you on the phone, let's talk about Ray Durham."

We couldn't trade Mesorasco until next June if we wanted to.

agreed. this requires tremendous self-discipline, very thick-skin, a deft trading touch, and a great eye for young talent. I like to think that we have that here, but it remains to be seen

Re: Lincecum available?

If he passes the physical and is properly evaluated, I'd trade any single offensive player the Reds have (Bruce included). Obviously, I'd try to avoid trading Bruce, but I'd give him up for Lincecum if that's what it took.
