Re: HOW hard does Cordero Throw?

This is a list from August 2006 that I found on actasports.com of the hardest throwers in the game in 05 and 06:

Who are the hardest throwers? They are all relievers except Daniel Cabrera. Here's the top ten list over the last two years:

Name Team Throws Avg Fastball (MPH)
Joel Zumaya Tigers R 98.56
Billy Wagner Mets L 96.47
Bobby Jenks White Sox R 96.29
Kyle Farnsworth Yankees R 96.20
Ambiorix Burgos Royals R 96.04
Brad Lidge Astros R 95.78
Francisco Cordero Brewers R 95.75
Daniel Cabrera Orioles R 95.74
Derrick Turnbow Brewers R 95.68
Mark Lowe Mariners R 95.61

2 pitch pitcher: Fastball and slider
Fastball is on average 96.1 MPH
Slider is on average 88.81 MPH

Seems like a typical overpowering closer to me.

Awesome, it's been a while since the Reds had a guy like this. I'm thinking Burton gets it in the mid-90s on occasion, is there anyone else in this pen that can do that? Bray, Coffey maybe? Perhaps the contrast between Cordero and the soft tossing vets like Weathers and Stanton will make those two more effective. Then again, maybe it will make no difference, but I'm in an optimistic mood.

Re: HOW hard does Cordero Throw?

This is interesting. Weathers is also a fastball/slider guy. Lets Compare

Weathers (AVG speed)
Fastball : 88.79
Slider : 84.65

Cordero (AVG speed)
Fastball : 96.10
Slider : 88.81

Weathers throws 81.31% fastballs
Cordero throws 50.39% fastballs

http://baseball.bornbybits.com/plots...o_Cordero.html

Here's the site with all the players. They also have hitters info.

Nice stat. Thanks for the site link.
It shows why Weathers has been around for so long, and why I am now scared about Cordero's four year contract. That's a lot of sliders on his elbow.

Got any figures on Burton? It would be interesting to see where he falls in with the other two.

Maybe Weathers throws mostly fastballs because he has to pitch to contact and can't overpower anyone?
