Kent Mercker

November 30, 2007
By Bob Hunter / THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Quote:
Dublin native Kent Mercker has been throwing in preparation for a possible comeback this spring. Mercker had ligament replacement surgery on his left elbow in 2006, after going 1-1 with a 4.13 ERA in 37 appearances with the Reds that season.

It was the second season in a row that the left-hander was one of the team's most effective relievers, so it seems likely the Reds would give him a shot.

Merkcer turns 40 on Feb. 1.

Re: Kent Mercker

If the Reds aren't takers, it would make some sense for Mercker to sign with Washington. Their AAA club is in Columbus, so he can live at home in Dublin while he gets his arm back into ML shape.

Re: Kent Mercker

I'd happily replace Mercker with Stanton if such a thing were possible.

I would certainly consider it. Maybe Jimbo or Maddon (In Tampa) would take Stanton off our hands.

Re: Kent Mercker

Honestly, might as well throw the guy a spring training invite and let him work in the minors if he does well. He can't do much worse than some of the guys out of the bullpen, and at least he's entertaining.

Re: Kent Mercker

I know mercker and he said that he wants to play for Cincinnati #1 and that he's not moving his family and that's the most important thing for him.

Why not give him a shot? Even an average reliever is a need in this bullpen

Let him compete, but please, please don't let he and Stanton break camp in the same bullpen!

Maybe Jeff Shaw wants to come back.
