Dusty speaks...
Fay:
The Dusty Session Dusty Baker just did his media session at the Winter Meetings. The guy is a shear delight. He quoted Van Morrison at one point. The session lasted a half hour. I'll transcribe the tape later but here are some highlights: --On trading Ken Griffey Jr. or Adam Dunn: "I hope not. I'm not the GM, but I didn't come here for Griffey leave." --On his reaction to the Florida-Detroit trade: "Damn. My wife grew up with Dontrelle (Willis') aunt. He's from the Bay Area. We could have rode to spring training together." --Has he talked to Pete Rose? "Not yet. I'm hoping to. I love Pete. I'm hoping to prove him wrong when he said you can't win in that ballpark. I want to win there and have Pete and Joe (Morgan) back -- all the dudes that kicked my butt." --On the Mitchell Report coming out before Christmas: "That ain't Merry Christmas on Happy New Year for some people." He didn't get interviewed for the report, by the way. --On Barry Bonds since the indictment: "I've spoke to him. Just to say hello. I spoke to his mom. I grew up with that family." --On the Reds starting pitching: "Is it imperative (we get another starter)? I'd like to have one. Maybe it will be like the Dodgers -- we'll have that surprise fall from the sky, a young guy who picked up another pitch at Winter Ball."

Re: Dusty speaks...
# 2:53 p.m. EST: We had lunch with Dusty and Ned Yost. Yost came over to sit down, saw Dusty, Dusty said, "what's up?" Yost answered, "Just trying to find a closer since you got mine."

Here's hoping that Dusty's move to Cincinnati imbued him with a heretofore undiscovered gift of coyness.

Re: Dusty speaks...
Maybe Joe's going to be reincarnated as a starting pitcher.

Re: Dusty speaks...
ah. If Bailey was a fist and a changeup was a glove I'd swear Dusty was trying to see if the glove fit.
