credit report help

Anyone ever had a situation with the three credit agency's reporting an inaccuracy on your account? I just received my report last week and their is a collection agency reporting me as late on two of them. The thing is, is that it's for a cable company and I've never had a cable company bill in my name...ever, even to this date.

I tried to dispute this online, but just received a follow up report this morning, that states the charge is accurate. I'm absolutely livid and feel totally violated.

I just don't understand how they could verify that this was my account? I've never received a bill or phone call from anyone. And like I said, I've never had a cable bill in my name. I've never even heard of the company that I supposedly have this account with.

Should I be contacting a lawyer next about this? The only bad thing on the report, was this bogus cable company charge.

Re: credit report help

I would first contact that cable company. See what information you can get from them.

Another way you can go about business is to use a company like ChoicePoint or ChoiceTrust. You can request everything that's out there on you, and then dispute it accordingly.

I would recommend going this route.

Hopefully this helps.

Re: credit report help

My wife and I bought a car back in 02, and the car dealer said my identity had been stolen...some guy in California had stolen my identity, and I'd never even been to California. One of the credit agencies had it wrong, so I received copies of all 3 credit reports, compared them, and I sent the company that had it wrong copies of the other two that were right. It's a real pain the patoosky, but that is what I would recommend.
