Prior to Padres
http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/news/story?id=3168825
Now that this has happened i'd rather the Reds sit tight instead of getting a Leiber type.

Re: Prior to Padres
Id go after Matt Clement now who should be fully recovered and will be able to pitch by April rather than June.

Re: Prior to Padres
I just heard this on ESPN Radio on my PS3. I was hoping the Reds could get him but who knows maybe it's for the best that they didn't go after him.

Re: Prior to Padres
The low salery makes me believe he wasn't going to sign here no matter what. He's looking for a LTC and thinks 1 year in the Padres park will inflate his stats well enough that next offseason he'll cash in. It's a risky strategy, but I assume he thinks he'll pitch well. This makes it the best deal in the market by far for the the Padres

At least he'll be a lot closer to Mexico.

Re: Prior to Padres
Heres to a good half of a season from Mark Proir somewhere, glad he didn't use Cincinnati to get his payday. I have a strong feeling thats where this is all leading too. He stands to make 3 million..while pitching in a park that will mask any defencies he still has (which include that last straight 91 mph fastball he was sporting last season)

Re: Prior to Padres
I don't mind not getting him although I have to admit I'd rather spend Juan Castro's salary as a flier on Prior. No big deal though . . . the Reds need someone healthy and ready to pitch, not a lottery ticket.

Re: Prior to Padres
I think the Padres believe that they are contenders and don't mind the gamble for Prior down the stretch. With Arizona and LA improved and Colorado with a year of post season experience under their belt, that's certainly a gamble. I would've liked to see the Reds come up with him as well, but I'm not losing any sleep over this one.
