Looks like the Goose made it in.

Rice being short by 14 votes is a crime.

Blyleven again being left out is a travesty.

Congrats to Goose though.

I agree, as he is one of the game's leading strikeout pitchers. And I thought Goose should have been in before Sutter.

Looks like Dave Concepcion's fate rests with the Veteran's Committee.

I can't believe Blyleven gets so horribly ignored. He's the Eddie Murray of pitchers, only Eddie got in easily. That's what spending 80% of your career in the Midwest will do for you.

Rice was dominate in the era he played, he was top 5 in MVP voting six times in that span. His career did burnout quickly but the writers often said Goose and others have played too long, they can't have it both ways.

He was nasty to the writers, but so was Steve Carlton and Eddie Murray. Rice's reasoning was that he did not want to give the writers a scoop about what was going on internally with the team. Right or wrong that probably cost Rice the hall by 16 votes.

Is playing nice with the press a pre-requisite for getting into the Hall.

IIRC, it wasn't that Rice was nasty to sportswriters. He just refused to talk to them because he had been burned by negative press and didn't trust them.

IMO if you put Rice if the HOF then you have to also put Dawson,Murphy and probably Parker in too. To me all of these guys were about the same player and without looking up their stats I would say they are very similar.

I would love to hear some reasoning behind this opinion. A great link is posted with arguments for and against Rice. My opinion is for read the link and make your own judgements.

Blyleven did play on two World Champioship teams, the 1979 Pirates and the 1987 Twins. You would think that would have got him more notice. But he did play on some very bad Twins,Rangers and Indian teams for the majority of his career.
