John Allen Sighting
It appears Allen is helping the Reds in an advisory role in their search for a ST location, per Mlb.com.
CINCINNATI -- An indication they are keeping their options open about a new Spring Training home, the Reds are taking a closer look at Arizona. Former Reds chief operating officer John Allen, now a consultant during the club's camp search, will be in Goodyear, Ariz., on Wednesday. Local leaders will make their case during a presentation and give Allen a tour of the city and the location of their planned facility. A Nov. 6 ballot referendum that would have provided $16 million in funding to improve the club's current Sarasota, Fla., facility was not approved. The Reds immediately opened a search for a new place to train, which has interested communities in Florida and Arizona reaching out. Still in the process of building a Spring Training ballpark, Goodyear will be hosting the Indians beginning in 2009. The city, a western suburb of Phoenix, is seeking a second club to share the facility. The Reds' Florida lease at Ed Smith Stadium runs until October, but there are three one-year club options that could extend the club's stay through the 2011 season. Allen and the club have given no details about other cities they might be interested in visiting.
