Redszone Community Prospect Vote #29

Vote for the player who you think is the Reds #29 prospect (the best prospect who is not yet on the list). We will go with this as far as you guys want to take it.

I will post a new list every 2 days with 10-15 options to vote on.

If you feel like making an argument on why a guy should be voted here, feel free to vote and state why you voted for that player.

If there is someone that is not currently listed as an option to vote on, vote for 'other' then just state who you want to vote for in the thread.

If there is anyone you would like to see as an option on the next poll, just say so and if they garner enough support, they will be placed on the next poll. Guys with the lowest amount of votes will usually be removed for the next few guys who were talked about in the previous thread.

Janish lost at 28 and will fall to 30 now that Reed is appropriately back up on the board!

Reds prospect voting, catch the fever!

It's Smit for me, too. He has the highest ceiling, by a long shot, in my opinion.

I'll go with Justin Reed over Ramon Ramirez.

Smit for me again. I think he's the most overlooked prospect.

Not sure the fascination with Justin Reed. Stats don't look good. He's young.

Janish will at least make the majors at some point.

I voted for him just because of lack of competition, but I've wondered the same thing. I keep hearing he's athletic, but what's that athletecism supposed to translate into on the field? It's not like he's a budding power threat. What part of his game is all this upside supposed to come from?

Reed did show vast improvement from his 2006 season to his 2007 season. His OPS was .799 in 2007 and was .556 in 2006. From a CF that is pretty good and he has very good on base skills (.371 OBP). He also was only 19 last season. All prospect don't have great stats at early ages the key is to see the development in a player. Just say he improves to a .850 OPS player next year in Dayton with his speed he will be a Top 10 player in the Reds system. I believe he is very underrated on this board.

Agree, if he posts them stats that will escalate his value. But the truth is -- he struggled in Billings last year only to rebound in his second year in the GCL.

Not a impressive feat, but he is young none-the-less...

He really didn't struggle in Billings though, he ranked 16th in the BA Pioneer League top 20.

He did strike out 41 times in 100 at bats. His OBP was still good though, so I guess that's a good sign since I'm guessing he projects as a leadoff type down the road.

Re: Redszone Community Prospect Vote #29

Justin Reed is very raw and has a high ceiling, but I'd be tempted to put Brandon Menchaca above him at this point.
