Nationals sign Bret Boone. Really.

per rotoworld:

Quote:
Nationals agreed to terms with second baseman Bret Boone on a minor league contract.

Yes, Bret Boone. He hasn't played in the majors since hitting .170 in a 14-game stint with the Twins in 2005 and will turn 39 years old in April, so needless to say that Boone is an extreme long shot to be in the Nationals' plans. His brother Aaron figures to make the team as a reserve player and his father Bob is the team's assistant general manager. Much like Dmitri Young last year, Boone will not be joining the major league camp initially, instead reporting to the accelerated development camp with minor leaguers.

Is Scott Sullivan's arm still attached? Where's Chris Stynes?

Jon Nunnally sure would look sharp in a nats uniform.

Another in a long line of baffling decisions from the Nats, do the owners enjoy this sort of comedy?

I'm honestly surprised they haven't signed Jeff Shaw yet.

Re: Nationals sign Bret Boone. Really.

No big deal. It's a minor-league contract, and Boonie probably won't even break camp.

Not a big deal baseball-wise. But a HUGE deal comedy-wise.

Maybe Bowden will attempt to touch the Nationals' past and bring back Teddy Ballgame's frozen corpus to manage this season.

Why? He doesn't have anyone in his stable who formerly wore a Reds uniform that I'd like to see back in a Reds uniform. As far as I'm concerned, if collecting former Reds is a recipe for success, JimBo should be given as much space as he needs to test that theory.
