Comparing Reds' schedule difficulty to the Cubs
In the unlikely event that the Reds contend for the division this year, they are placed at a hearty disadvantage by the schedule makers.
Yet another reason why they should get rid of interleague play. http://homerderby.com/archives/1877 Summary - The Reds play: 6 games against the World Champion semifinalist Cleveland Indians 3 games against the World Champion Red Sox 3 games against the AL Wild Card NY Yankees 3 games against the over .500 Blue Jays The Cubs play 6 games against the Southside suckbutt WhiteSox 3 games against the "get the devil out" Rays 3 games against the Orioles 3 games against the Blue Jays. Discuss

Re: Comparing Reds' schedule difficulty to the Cubs
I don't think playing the Rays will be fun. The Indians/White Sox is a "rivalry thing". IMO that leave O's vs Red Sox. There lies the Cubs advantage.

Re: Comparing Reds' schedule difficulty to the Cubs
It's just the way it goes sometimes. The last time the NL Central played the AL East, the Cubs had it much tougher than the Reds. I know for sure the Reds did not play the Yankees or the Red Sox the last time.
Also, you always play your rival so that's nothing new. Last edited by fearofpopvol1; 02-24-2008 at 02:02 PM. |

Interleague play is crap, it's fringe fan BS and really needs to be left out of any future schedule remaking... just bad math in a game that leans on numbers so hard.

Re: Comparing Reds' schedule difficulty to the Cubs
I get the idea. capitalize on markets fans never get to see. but honestly that only works for the small market team looking for a good draw when the Yanks, Red Sox, Cubs, Dodgers or Braves come to town. Honestly does anyone really expect to see an attendance spike when the matchup is Marlins vs. Royals?
Sometimes bad ideas need to be seen to be believed. What works for the NBA and NFL isn't necessarily good for MLB. I like league rivalries. FA has diluted that somewhat, but interleague has killed it. Interleague killed the ASG to the point where "now it counts." pheh.

The Reds looked terrible that whole series. I don't buy the idea that "that's just how it goes sometimes." That might be the case if a star player gets injured and Team A gets to face the star player and Team B does not. But the schedule makers don't have to make the situation worse.

Originally, I thouhgt interlegue was a good idea.....until, the Reds played the Indians while the Cards played the Royals year after year.

Re: Comparing Reds' schedule difficulty to the Cubs
I stand corrected...the Reds did play Boston last time. Either way, the Cubs did have the tougher schedule that last time around we played the AL East.

Re: Comparing Reds' schedule difficulty to the Cubs
So did Freel in CF in game 1.
In game 1, Eric Milton was Eric Milton. In game 2, David Wells and company combine for a 1-hitter. In game 3, Bob Boone gave us a Bob Boone special, electing to rest Sean Casey and bat 3 right handhanders in the first four spots in the lineup against Bronson Arroyo. As we all know by now, righthanders do not hit Bronson Arroyo. Lefthanders do. The Reds were outscored 23-4 in the series. Good times.

Re: Comparing Reds' schedule difficulty to the Cubs
We play the Brewers 6 times without Cameron and Gallardo, the Cubs only play them 3 times.
Advantage Reds.
