Spring Training Position Battles
Anyone know whats going on with Evan Longoria in TB? Is he going to be the starting 3B?
Or how about with the Cubs closer job?

Re: Spring Training Position Battles
Longoria is expected to start at third, with Iwamura sliding over to second and Upton in center field...
As for the Cubs closer, I think I read somewhere that Howry should be named the closer early but expect Kerry Wood to force his way into the role as long as he stays healthy/sharp...

Re: Spring Training Position Battles
I was just reading that Wood, with his fastball consistently in the 96-98 range right now, is the favorite to win the cubs job, with howry the last of the three (marmol) to have a shot.
1. Wood 2. Marmol 3. Howry As far as Longoria, yes, he will start at 3b.... You can prob expect him to do just slightly worse than what Alex Gordon did last year, as it's my opinion that Gordon is the more advanced hitter of the two. |

I thought I saw something that Pinella said Marmol did good in the seventh inning last year and he doesn't want to mess with that success...

Re: Spring Training Position Battles
I read on MLB today that Wood is all but locked as the Cubs closer.
And I think that Longoria would have to pull an Alex Gordon from early 2007 for months before the Rays bump him from the 3B job. They've already moved big money signing Iwamura to 2B for him. |
