Scott Williamson Coming Back?

John Fay

Quote:
I did Channel 5's Sports Rock tonight. I'm the gray-haired guy sitting next to George Vogel. I uttered the phrase "I agree with Wild Man," at one point. Watching yourself on TV is frightening. Scott Williamson was on the show after our segment. His wife said Scott's agent has talked with the Reds. Williamson is healthy and ready to pitch.
I'd rather have guys like Burton, Salmon, Coutlangus, and McBeth up at the big league level then bring in Williamson.

Re: Scott Williamson Coming Back?

I think it would be funny if Williamson pitched with the Reds before Phil Dumatrait or Tyler Pelland ever made it.

Funny or irony?

If he's healthy, and can remain so, sure, why not.

There's a lot of if's in that statement, but I'm ok with it. He's younger than the other old guys that are there.

Meh. It's not like he's going to turn the Reds' season around.

Re: Scott Williamson Coming Back?

I wouldn't mind a minimum deal with a 1M team option, or something along those lines.

85 IP since he was traded 4 years ago.

As a Red

1999 - 93.1
2000 - 112
2001 - 74
2002 - 42.1

Since then 85 Innings, I doubt he's coming to Cincinnati.

We all know Willy's arm is held on by duct tape and bubble gum , but he is worth a look , he's still only 31. If by some miracle his arm stays healthy he could still be an effective major league pitcher.

Agreed. I recall reading last year that he really misses Cincy so maybe he can turn his career around if he returns.

Re: Scott Williamson Coming Back?

What kind of mph has he been able to generate recently? Is his slider still unpredictable? How many wild pitches/passed balls could a combination of Scott Williamson and Javy Valentin generate?

No real reason, except to maybe get out of position for the #1 pick in '08.

Re: Scott Williamson Coming Back?

There are two kinds of deals the Reds should make for relievers: Future value and warm bodies to get through the season. They shouldn't confuse the two.
