Indians may make Sowers available

Does he do anything for anyone? Junk balling lefties always make our line up look bad, but would he help the rotation as someone in the middle of the young flamethrowers as a change of pace?

I wouldn't give up much for him. Maybe a guy like Ben Jukich for Sowers but not much more than that.

Wouldn't touch him with a barge pole. He was a lefty the Reds could actually hit.

I don't think so. He looks to be Tom Glavine, the AAAA version.

A junk-baller who can't strike out 3.5/9 in the majors? Unless they'll take Stanton and Castro for him, no thanks.

Wow, how Sowers has fallen. An archive of what has been written about him on this site since the Reds failed to sign him out of Vanderbilt would be entertaining to say the least.

Is he out of options?

Unfortunately, the threads from 2001 are long gone, but there is this one from two years ago...

Man, has it really been seven years since Sowers was drafted by the Reds?!

Re: Indians may make Sowers available

He's still only 24 years old. He's probably got at least as good a chance as Malony to put it together. He's lefthanded and wouldn't cost too much.

Sure, I'd take a flyer on him. I wouldn't trade Homer for him, but I'd pick him up if the Indians were reasonable about their demands. Sowers was pretty impressive in 2006 in about 80 IP (and age 22).

Seems like the classic prospect that lost his shine real quick.Sure, it's a risk that he might have already flamed out, but he's worth a shot.

Sowers' xFIP for 2006 was 4.76...

From that thread, here's the most sensible post, wish I could say I wrote it:

Sowers is decent, but I don't get the love. He is new, probably will be serviceable, but he taint franchise. The Reds offered the guy 2.5 million at the 14th slot, which was very nice, especially for a HS guy
Kudos goes to Aronchris...
