3/21/08 Reds vs. Pirates

Reds

vs.

Pirates

Lineup via Trent:

Quote:
Today's lineup for the Reds:
Corey Patterson cf
Jeff Keppinger ss
Ken Griffey Jr. rf
Brandon Phillips 2b
Adam Dunn lf
Edwin Encarnacion 3b
Joey Votto 1b
Javier Valentin c
Aaron Harang p

This very well could be your Opening Day lineup.

Other pitchers on the trip:
Bill Bray
Jim Brower
Todd Coffey
Francisco Cordero
Jon Coutlangus
Mike Lincoln
Gary Majewski
Mike Stanton
David Weathers

* Tom Shearn has fans everywhere. Shearn, who was reassigned to minor league camp yesterday, was one of last year's great stories, but I didn't realize it was as great as it is. I saw a car yesterday with the license plate "ILVSHRN" -- I tried to get a picture of it, but I was driving and, well, you couldn't see it.

Man that's a lot of chaff they are still carrying in terms of bullpen arms.

I would be comfortable with that as the Opening Day line-up, by the way.

Is it carrying chaff or is it doing one of the things that ST is designed to do, winnowing the chaff from the wheat?

A scoreless two innings by Brower, let's say, could make him the wheat and Coutlangus not being able to get an out, let's say, could make him the chaff.

The reverse could happen.

Or Coutlangus throwing a perfect inning and Stanton, for example, getting bombed could help management decide the next (LH, in this example) bull pen cut.

Opening day is not tomorrow.

Sharon is probably concerned by her husband's professed love for a minor league RHPer.

I consider Brower chaff, regardless. Lincoln too. A few scoreless innings from either of them won't change my mind on that.

Um, just musing here Thom, but is it because their camps are 10 miles from each other? Just a thought.

They'll have better spring competition when they move to Arizona....

Nice to see an extra base hit from someone not named Andy Green.

Votto 2 for 2 with 2 doubles off a lefty.

That is all.

Take that, shift...

Griffey goes against it for a double.

Re: 3/21/08 Reds vs. Pirates

I was pulled away from the computer for work stuff...how did the Reds get to their five runs? Mostly looking for an idea if anyone in particular had a big hit or two.

Nice to hear on Votto.
