Neyer: Top 50 over the Next 5 years
Ah no Brandon Phillips, Edwin Encarnacion or Adam Dunn? Evan Longoria makes it despite his 'one other thing' rule?

Re: Neyer: Top 50 over the Next 5 years
Melky Cabrera? Seriously?
Prince Fielder 40th? I don't care if he weighs 450 pounds...this isn't a beauty pageant. Dude is the youngest player to ever hit 50 homeruns in a season. That's a pretty bad list if you ask me. What's ridiculous is his comment about Bruce not making it because he's never played a major league inning and then turns around and condradicts himself by placing Longoria at 20. I'll try to make one of my own later when I have the time. Last edited by OnBaseMachine; 03-25-2008 at 01:49 PM. |

Re: Neyer: Top 50 over the Next 5 years
I've often seen the name of the columnist Rob Neyer bandied about here like he's some kind of authority. Is his work usually better than this? Otherwise, I don't see how his opinion matters any more than the opinion of some random guy with a blog.

Re: Neyer: Top 50 over the Next 5 years
6 of the top 8 are currently in the NL East.
Only 3 pitchers in the top 20 (Santana 5, Webb 17, and Sabathia at 19). Peavy (23) makes 4 Ps in the top 30, with Haren at 31. Any list that puts Ryan Howard in between Dan Uggla and Melky Cabrera is suspect, at best. |

Where is Fausto Carmona? Jay Bruce? Chris Young (the outfielder), Scott Kazmir? David Price? Felix Hernandez? Matt Cain? Cole Hamels?

Re: Neyer: Top 50 over the Next 5 years
He states Jay Bruce isn't on the list because he's got to establish himself for a few years, but Adam Jones is on the list?

Re: Neyer: Top 50 over the Next 5 years
He gets a CF defensive discount that he doesn't deserve as well as pinstripe grade inflation in general.
It's tough to take a list with Melky on it very seriously although the majority of the list is difficult to argue about. Bonus points to anyone for naming the GM that traded six years of Asdrubal Cabrera for 87 at bats (.195/.304/.241) from Eduardo Perez......

Not a good list by any means....and this is just silly. Very disappointed in Rob, usually a good read (I'm sure he'll be concerned w/ my thoughts)

Re: Neyer: Top 50 over the Next 5 years
It's an interesting idea for an article, but a pretty lame effort.

Probably won't throw his first professional pitch until at least May.
