Working with pressure treated lumber

My husband and I are considering purchasing a wooden swing set kit, for which we would need to provide several 4x4x8's and 4x4x10's. After checking with our local home improvement stores, it appears that we would most likely have to purchase pressure treated lumber. I know that most of that is no longer treated with the arsenic, but it still makes me uneasy. After doing a bit of reading, I'm assuming that we will need to put a water sealant on it to help keep the wood in good shape as well as to help block out the leakage of chemicals. So, I guess my question is does anyone here have experience with this type of thing? Should we seal the lumber before the playset is constructed or after? Any tips?

Re: Working with pressure treated lumber

TimberSil is a new non-toxic treated lumber. It's basically treated with sand and soda ash. Kids can chew it and not be harmed - well, except for splinters. It can also be sealed any way you choose without waiting for a drying period like you had to do with penta treated lumber.
