Cincinnati Johnny Temple 2b Vada Pinson rf Frank Robinson lf George Crowe 1b Don Hoak 3b Smoky Burgess c Gus Bell cf Roy McMillan ss Joe Nuxhall p Chicago Cubs Tony Taylor 2b Lee Walls rf Ernie Banks ss Walt Moryn lf Bobby Thomson cf Johnny Goryl 3b Dale Long 1b El Tappe c Glen Hobbie p WP: Glen Hobbie (2-2) LP: Joe Nuxhall (0-1) HR: CHI - Bobby Thomson (2). Glen Hobbie pitched a four-hit shutout with 7 K's to get the win for the Cubs. The only hits for the Reds were a two-out single by Frank Robinson in the first inning, a one-out single by Roy McMillan in the second, a leadoff single by Don Hoak in the seventh, and a one-out single by Smoky Burgess in the ninth. Joe Nuxhall was lifted for pinch-hitter Bob Thurman in the top of the second inning.
