Salmon deal completed -Reds get RHP Pitcher

CINCINNATI -- The Cincinnati Reds today acquired from Kansas City RHP Henry Arias to complete the March 19 deal that sent RHP Brad Salmon to the Royals for a player to be named later or cash.

Arias, 23, will be assigned to Class A Dayton. This season for Burlington he went 2-3 with a 3.78 ERA and 2 saves in 18 relief appearances.

He originally was signed as a non-drafted free agent on February 4, 2003. Arias graduated from Espiritu Santos School in 2002.

Arias was an undrafted FA signed in 2003. This has been his best season but he's never advanced past low A in a weak KC system. In 33 innings so far he has allowed 32 hits, 30 Ks, 18 bb, 3 HRs, 14 ER and has a 1.28 FO/GO ratio. 23 y/o, a native of the DR. Strictly a reliever.

So I'm guessing cash considerations was not an option.

Or maybe Dayton was that in need of a reliever.

I have to say I'm a bit disappointed, but it's better than cash. I think the Reds just felt bad about stealing Jeff Keppinger and dumping Jason LaRue on them.
