Re: Friday September 5th minor league playoff updates
Dayton gets extra day of rest
By Marc Katz Staff Writer Saturday, September 06, 2008 DAYTON — Round 2 of the Class A Midwest League playoffs will have to wait another day for the Dayton Dragons, who don't even know where that round will begin and finish. With West Michigan beating South Bend (Ind.) 11-0 on Friday, Sept. 5, to even that best-of-three series at 1-1, tonight's game at West Michigan will determine which team faces the Dragons in Round 2. If it's South Bend, Dayton hosts Game 1 on Sunday, with the rest of the series to continue in South Bend beginning Monday. If West Michigan wins tonight, the Dragons play there Sunday, with the rest of the series in Dayton beginning Monday. Dayton manager Donnie Scott did not have a preference, but noted regardless of which team becomes his opponent, the Dragons have two days off. "We've got time to heal a bit," Scott said after the Dragons eliminated Lansing in two games Thursday, and South Bend-West Michigan was rained out. Now that that series has pushed to three games, the Dragons not only get additional rest, it gives them a chance to use their star pitchers more. Jeremy Horst and Enerio Del Rosario pitched the first two playoff games for the Dragons and were excellent, as they have been of late. Luis Montano is scheduled to pitch next. After that, the Dragons were getting Curtis Partch and Juan Rafael ready, except those two pitchers have been erratic recently. With two days off, Horst and Del Rosario are due to pitch again, meaning Partch and Rafael can be held back. In the first game of the playoffs, Horst allowed only three hits in 62/3 innings. Del Rosario followed that with eight hits in seven innings. More importantly, Scott didn't have to plow too deep into his bullpen. He's got everybody ready. "It's going to take everybody to do this," Scott said. "It's going to take the whole team." http://www.daytondailynews.com/s/con...nswestwin.html |
