Re: This Date In Reds History (8/21/08): Past Lineups
10 years ago (1998), a 14-2 loss at Three Rivers Stadium in the Steel City.
Cincinnati Reggie Sanders rf Barry Larkin ss Jeffrey Hammonds cf Dmitri Young lf Bret Boone 2b Eduardo Perez 1b Aaron Boone 3b Brook Fordyce c Brett Tomko p Pittsburgh Tony Womack 2b Adrian Brown cf Jason Kendall c Kevin Young 1b Turner Ward rf Al Martin lf Freddy Garcia 3b Lou Collier ss Chris Peters p WP: Chris Peters (7-8) LP: Brett Tomko (11-9) HR: PIT - Al Martin (12), Jason Kendall (11). I was at this game. Earlier that summer I had made my peace with MLB over the Strike of 1994, and attended a Reds game at Comiskey Park vs. the White Sox while I was on vacation in Chicago--the first game I had attended since the strike. This game was my last opportunity to see the Reds before I had to go back to work (I am a teacher), and Pittsburgh is actually an easier drive for me than Cincinnati. The actual result of the game left something to be desired, but it felt good to be at a Reds game, and I get a special feeling about seeing an away game, and seeing the Reds in their gray road uniforms.
