Chris Dickerson is NOT related to Eric Dickerson
The story, as I heard it, is that Chris Dickerson is a nephew of former NFL running back Eric Dickerson. Wrong. A myth.
“That got into some bio the first year of my career and it has never stopped,” said Dickerson. “We’re not related. I get asked all the time - when I sign autographs, by members of the other team. I can remember reading that he was related to Eric Dickerson years ago when he was first drafted by the Reds. I'm surprised it took this long to be refuted. The same thing happened with Evan Longoria... when he first drafted there was a rumor that he was the brother of Eva Longoria but that turned out to be false. |

Dickerson's minor league page also said he was related to Eric Dickerson. This was a widespread rumor. I wonder if Dickerson was having fun with some media relations guy early in his minor league career, or if a minor league media relations guy just made it up. But it sure took on a life of its own.
Or maybe someone just saw Dickerson run first to third and thought he had to be related to Eric Dickerson. "Well you might run like Mays, but you hit like (bleep)." |
