Maddux pitches 5000 innings
With a pop out to SS, Greg Maddux just completed 5000 innings in the Bigs.
What a great pitcher. Hats off to him. Rem |

Re: Maddux pitches 5000 innings
Very impressive. Only 13 pitchers in history have 5000 innings. Cy Young is number one with an amazing 7354 innings. Maddux has had an amazing career to state the obvious. He's been one of the top three pitchers in my lifetime, IMO, with the other two being Randy Johnson and Pedro Martinez.

Meh. 3000 of those innings were in 2004-2006 when he was with the Cubs under Baker.
:Ah, come on...SOMEONE had to say it. Seriously, Maddox has long been my favorite non-Red. Obviously, one of the greatest of all time. |

Great teammate. Tough competitor. Possesses a nearly encyclopedic knowledge of hitters. I look forward to seeing him become a great coach or manager someday, if he wants to.

Re: Maddux pitches 5000 innings
Question: what MPH did Maddux hit on his fastball when he was younger? I know he was never thought of as a power pitcher and that most of his K's (and there were quite a lot of them) came from location rather than speed, but I'm just curious whether he had any zip on that heater at one time.

Re: Maddux pitches 5000 innings
If memory serves (and I'm sure a more definitive answer can be found online somewhere), Maddux worked in the 90's in his prime -- similar to Harang.
