Krusty said over on ORG about Andrew Jones & J. Pierre how about just Jones is it just his knee that was his health problem? He would fit in center and between Votto & Bruce in order with Dickerson and Freel in left to let Stubbs get half yr. in AAA. What would it take to get him with or without all of contract?

yeah i saw that and i've thought about that too. i wouldn't want pierre and his contract but one year of jones could be a win for both us and him. we could use a rh hitter with power which he is. LA maybe open to a deal and he'd have a chance to rebuild his stock in a real hitters park. plus one year could be all we would need until we have a couple outfielders come up from the minors (stubbs, frazier, alonso, etc) to take over.
my understanding is his knee was the main problem and that he is going to play winter ball in the Dominican Republic so that would help to know how his knee is.

I just can't picture Andruw in a Reds uniform and we don't need Pierre. At all.

If have seen Andrew Jones play this year, it would be clear that his knees are not the problem. He has lost the ability to make contact, mostly because he can't hit a breaking ball to save his life.
For most of his career he was able to make due by hitting mistake fastballs and hangers. But now pitchers realize that they never have to throw him a fastball, and they can K him with ease.
Because of his knees, his defense has suffered greatly too. I believe Jayson Stark rated him the most over-rated defensive CF in the game.

Basically he is a $16M version of Corey Patterson, who is not as good defensively. Even if the Dodgers paid his whole salary, I would pass.
